Nice list to remember when talking to your IT guy

Here's a decent top 10 list of things not to do when dealing with an IT guy. For the most part, pretty good.

    This strikes me as odd...
Let me preface this by saying I haven't decided which of the two I'll vote for in the primary and that I'm happy with either choice...

With the whole Texas two-step election, the allocation of the delegates is bringing up a bit hypocrisy, at least in my eyes. I've heard and read quite a few people say that if Obama should win the pledged delegate count but Clinton goes on to win the nomination because of the superdelegates it would be completely unfair and going against the will of the voters. That a minority of the party is deciding things for the rest of us.

Fast forward to now, where it appears that Obama will collect more delegates in Texas because of the caucuses, even though Clinton won the primary. Does that seem like a similar situation to anyone else? Over 4 million people voted in the Texas primary, whereas only around a million, if that, participated in caucuses (that in some locations went past 3am).

The argument could be made that those are the rules of the game, but wouldn't that same argument be made for the superdelegates as well?

Just something that was bugging me about this week.

    Interesting polictial analysis site
Here's a site that asks several questions and sees how close you are to the candidates.

Personally I was about perfectly between Edwards and Obama, and I was close to Clinton and Richardson, which is about what I expected. I was most unlike Fred Thompson, which I also could have predicted :)

    Priceless
If you watch any football (well, any TV at all, really) you've probably seen the Peyton Manning pep talk commercials. Here's where you can customize them for yourself or for your friends :)

    Klein Sexual Orientation Grid

I scored an average of 0.9

    01 2 3 4 5
    6

    HeterosexualBisexual Homosexual

    Meaning

This result can also be related to the Kinsey Scale:

    0 = exclusively heterosexual
1 = predominantly heterosexual, incidentally homosexual
2 = predominantly heterosexual, but more
    than incidentally homosexual
3 = equally heterosexual and homosexual
4 = predominantly homosexual, but more than incidentally
    heterosexual
5 = predominantly homosexual, incidentally heterosexual
    6 = exclusively homosexual

    Summary

The idea of this exercise is to understand exactly how dynamic a person's sexual orientation can be, as well as how fluid it can be over a person's lifespan. While a person's number of actual homo/heterosexual encounters may be easy to categorize, their actual orientation may be completely different. Simple labels like "homosexual", "heterosexual", and "bisexual" need not be the only three options available to us.

    This is funny
SO if you know me from high school you know I loved the Reduced Shakespeare Company's (http://www.reducedshakespeare.com/) play The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged).

Well, apparently they were performing to an audience of middle and high school kids when the principal decided to cut the performance short (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21105186/).

Shouldn't they, you know, check these things out before showing them to a large group of kids? And honestly, I don't think there's anything in there worse than what;s already in the original source material. Stupid puritans :)

What American accent do you have?
    Created by Xavier on Memegen.net

Midland. The Midland (please don't confuse with "Midwest") itself is the neutral zone between the North and South. But just because you have a Midland accent doesn't mean you're from there. Since it is considered a neutral, default, "non-regional" accent you could easily be from someplace without its own accent, like Florida, or a big city in the South like Dallas, Houston, or Atlanta.

Take this quiz now - it's easy!
We're going to start with "cot" and "caught." When you say those words do they sound the same or different?

    My thought for the day...
The sound of a harpsichord being tuned is an effective form of torture.

I was setting up equipment in Wheeler this morning for one of the World Cultures lectures (which meant I was here at 6:30 in the morning...that was awful enough) and they had scheduled the tuning for then as well. God it was painful.

What American accent do you have?
    Your Result: The Midland

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

    World Series Baby!
So yeah, sitting around for a few hours Wednesday night during the rain out was kind of a bummer, but getting to come back on Friday and see the Cardinals win the World Series made it all worthwhile, even though I did have to drive back to Evansville last night be at work for a UE Open House at 7 in the morning. I'm tired as hell, running on only 4 hours of sleep, but it totally rocked. I definitely spent too much money on souvenirs and stuff, but oh well. Also missed the most bitching Halloween party ever at DJ's, and our costumes would have been great, but I guess we can always use them next year for version 2.0 of the mega Halloween bash (or just wear them for fun...whatever).

Now it's nap time...well, technically I'm still at work, but I have two student workers doing almost everything, so it's all good :)

    Peacock Blue Baby!
I was curious what color my hood would be when I walk this December, so I went to google to find out...turns out it's Peacock Blue...

If you're curious what that looks like, here's a link.

So, it's been a little while...
Well, yeah, it's been a while since I've posted anything. I've been in my new job for about a month and a week now. Pretty much settled in now, although there are always things to learn about the job. Managing an army of student workers isn't the easiest thing to do, and playing catchup on projects that should have been handled during the summer isn't much fun either. I was hired at pretty much the worst possible time to come into this position, the start of the school year. Hopefully next year's school start up will be much smoother. I do like the job and the people I work with though, which is a definite plus.

I've also started my last master's class, and so far it looks like it's going to be easy, easy. hopefully it stays that way, because I have way too much stuff to take care of at work and have a challenging class! Plus, I'm just ready to be done.

I've been playing IM soccer with Phi Tau, which has been fun. I'm playing goalie, and I'm not that great, but i have a pretty good defense in front of me so I don't have to do a whole lot. We're 1-1 so far, and had a few more games scheduled for this past week, but it was during Rush, so those had either been pushed back or cancelled.

Anna's on the road again for work. She left last Friday for Tulsa by plane, rented a car and is making her way back here to Evansville, with a two week layover in the St. Louis area. Once again she'll be celebrating her b-day on the road, but at least this year she'll be close to her family. She had wanted to do a big thing for her b-day (it's her 25th & 25 is her lucky number, so it's her lucky number b-day) and planned a weekend in St. Louis, making it cheap and manageable by having it over a weekend, staying at her parent's house, and trying to do as much free stuff as she could.

However, that's all fallen apart completely since a lot of people didn't ask off in time to be able to make it (granted, the invitations and plans were made almost 2 months ago...not nearly enough time to plan anything). So it ended up only three people could go, with one already having plans for Sunday so they wanted to leave early, meaning at least one other person would be leaving early as well, so there would be two cars making the trip... Since it didn't really feel to her like people actually wanted to go, but were going out of obligation, she canceled. So I'll be headed up there alone to spend time with her, and I'll be going there next week as well for a wedding. I'm pretty annoyed by the whole thing (not by the going to see her part, but that she's pretty much had her b-day ruined).

Anyway, enough of that. At least now I get to go to the Cardinals game tomorrow, assuming I can get out of work early enough, although I was looking forward to Dave & Busters as well.

    New job
Well, I've started my new job. Still very confused about exactly what my areas of responsibility are, but I'm hoping over time that will become more clear to me. I am able to access the help desk software now, so that's a plus. A minus is the fact that my computer blows. Apparently Elzie didn't really care about having an old crappy machine, but I'd like to get something a little better. :)

I think this is due somewhat to my fiscal conservatism...

    You Are a Liberal Republican

When you tell people that you're Republican, they rarely believe you.

    That's because you're socially liberal - likely pro-choice and pro-gay rights.

You're also not so afraid of big government, as long as it benefits people and not politicians.

You are the most likely of any Republican type to swing over to the Democrat side sometimes.

    My last word
What I see are two people, one who's happier than I've ever seen her, and another who I haven't seen this happy in a long time. That's all I fucking care about at this point. They are adults and can see whoever they want.

Permission doesn't need to be granted, nor does it even need to be requested.

My earlier comment was snarky, catty and uncalled for. Just don't call me a bad friend because I'm not a tattle-tell. It's not my place to report back who or what someone's ex is doing.

I've tried this whole time not to take sides, but I've been dragged into this. If I've lost a friend over it, that saddens me, but I'll move on.
